Workshops

With an emphasis on enhancing learning through highly engaging, interactive instruction, workshop proposals for CYTO 2023 are requested from researchers, shared laboratory personnel, professors and/or practitioners in all settings to offer expertise to the Cytometry profession. All workshop proposals are assessed and scored by multiple reviewers through the Education Committee.
Submission Important Dates and Deadlines
- Submission site opens: October 17, 2022
- Workshop Proposal Submission Deadline: EXTENDED to November 20th at 11:59pm ET
- Education Committee Decision Notifications: December 16, 2022
Workshops are intended to provide CYTO attendees with an interactive forum in which to discuss cytometry-related problems and work toward consensus solutions. Workshop proposals should have an emphasis on areas involving controversy or lack of consensus on best practices that will generate healthy discussion.
Ideal Workshop Proposals
The Society is looking for proposals that:
- Articulate a topic that is focused on research, methodologies, best practices, or core operations in focus; or that propose a new approach based on documented shortcomings of current approaches.
- Explore concepts in an interactive, learner-focused, engaging format.
- Take a deep dive into the potential impact of findings and explore how those impacts may apply to various aspects of the field.
- Focus in on different perspectives or points of view through professional discourse and respectful dialogue.
- Provide innovative, compelling content across all learning levels: basic, intermediate, and advanced level proposals are all welcome.
Workshops will be scheduled in concurrent 60-minute sessions throughout the Congress. Members from all areas of cytometry — Industry, Shared Resource Labs, and Institutions doing basic, translational, and clinical research — are encouraged to submit proposals for workshops relevant to their needs.
Workshop proposals should define current practices, discuss limiting issues and generate an action plan. The specific format is less important than its appropriateness to the problem being addressed and the objective of productive interactions among Congress attendees. However, a format should be defined in the proposal. Although workshops are often educational for participants new to areas impacted by the workshop topic, they are not intended to be didactic sessions per se (in contrast with tutorials). Any presentation(s) should be concise and stimulate engaging discussion of the workshop topic.

Preparing for Your Online Submission
The Society uses an online submission system for presentations. For a proposal to be considered, submissions will only be accepted through the online submission site, must contain all the required elements, and be completed by the deadline. The following information is required for submission:
- Workshop Title
- Presenting Author/Co-authors
- Intended Audience
- Problem Focus/Key Questions
- Format/Agenda
- Desired Workshop Outcome
To help develop an exciting set of problem-focused, solution-oriented workshops relevant to attendee interests, the Workshop Reviewers will use the following guidelines when selecting Workshop proposals for inclusion in the Congress program:
- The problem focus should be clearly defined and include a list of 3 to 5 key questions to be addressed during the workshop;
- The intended audience should be clearly defined (i.e., core directors, SRL staff, scientists, etc.), and an estimate of likely group size included;
- A detailed agenda or format should be included, specifying the number and length of any formal presentations and the name(s) of any proposed speakers or panel members;
- A list of 3 - 5 desired workshop outcomes (preferably action items) should be included, and workshop authors are expected to share these outcomes with the ISAC community.
Online Submission Guidelines
To access the online submission system, a Site User account must be created. You will need to enter an email address and create a password. The Site User is the only person that can make changes to a submission.
All workshop organizers/facilitators are required to provide a Short Bio. Bios will be published online and on the mobile app.
Presenting Author: Each submission has one Presenting Author. The Presenting Author will lead the workshop at the conference. For Workshops, the Presenting Author is the Lead Facilitator/Organizer. Presenting Author and the Site User will both receive any correspondences related to the submission.
Co-Author: A Co-Author is a workshop Co-Facilitator or Co-Organizer. They may or may not have presenting responsibilities within the workshop.
To be considered, submissions will only be accepted through the online submission site, must contain all the required elements, and be completed by the deadline. Selecting, collecting, and preparing the information indicated above will facilitate the submission process.
Workshop proposals must be in English. Please make sure that your browser is able to display the full variety of special characters, including Greek letters, if needed for your workshop proposal.
Presenting Author MUST be listed as the first author of the proposal. Proofread your submission carefully to ensure the workshop proposal content and author information is correct. Accepted proposals will be published online exactly as they are submitted. Submission changes and edits can only be made prior to official submission. Once you submit all requirements, you will not be able to make any further changes. We suggest that you "Save As Draft" and carefully proofread all information before submitting. You can come back later to edit your draft at any time. The Presenting Author will receive all correspondence regarding CYTO 2023 and is responsible for communicating presentation information to all authors. After successful submission, an e-mail confirmation will be sent that includes the submission ID number, login name, workshop proposal title, and type of submission. If you do not receive an email within 24 hours, please email cyto@maritz.com.
Please Note:- Final choice of Workshop topics will be made based on the quality of proposals, expected interest, and overall balance of the Congress program.
- The Education Committee reserves the right to decline a submission that lacks scientific content or merit, or that merely announces the availability of a resource or service.
- Results or studies that have been published or that will be accepted for publication elsewhere prior to the submission deadline may not be accepted for presentation.
- Workshops proposals should clearly describe how the audience will be engaged and encouraged to participate. Purely didactic proposals are discouraged.
